For spring/summer 2006, Mathias uses predominantly white silk as her medium, and the peacock feather as her colour influence. She applies paint, dye, and coffee, to the cloth using a variety of techniques that leave the outcome to chance. “Silk specifically, is an amazing textile to work with,” says Mathias. “It picks up colour and light, and reacts to even the slightest of movement.”

The end result of Mathias’ exploration is a focus on the touch and feel of the garment, and the ability to infinitely layer her pieces.
